Marriott: The Live Beta Hotel experience

I had the opportunity to spend a few days with Marriott for the relaunch of Marriott City center in downtown Charlotte. And the experience was nothing short of amazing!  As a leader in the hospitality business, Marriott has been working tirelessly to bring innovation and a new form of hospitality with a focus on the community in an effort to enhance the guest experience. With a mostly franchised business model, The Charlotte city center, located in the heart of downtown Charlotte, is one of the few locations that is owned and operated by the company. And therefore was chosen to be the Live Beta hotel to test their new concept. Marriott is definitely changing the game and pioneering what is soon to be the norm in the lodging business. Here are some of my favorite things from this beautifully remodeled location.

Mobile Check-in : This is actually one of my favorite of this innovative process. You book your hotel and select your arrival time on their new mobile app, the hotel then sends you a pop-up notification with a “MOBILE KEY” and lets you know when your room is ready. This allows you to bypass front desk check-in and walk right through the lobby up to your room. Yes, please!

Squeaky clean guest rooms with very comfy beds. Mobile friendly with in-wall USB charging outlet throughout the room, Wifi and easy Bluetooth connectivity to TV screen as well as Netflix accessibility. A bathroom with stand up shower and a modern rainfall shower head. Now this is an upgrade!

FLEX fitness: 24/7 accessibility with a fully equipped gym as well as on-demand fitness sessions. Which allows you to choose classes from popular workout sessions and follow along on a life-size screen. You decide what kind of fitness/workout you want to do and it gets broken down into different series such as Cardio, strength, cycling, flexibility, yoga work out and so on. Not your average gym.

Another great addition is Stoke Kitchen. The Stoke is a beautiful and modern style restaurant led by executive chef Chris Coleman with a strong focus on the local community, sourcing locally grown produce. Everything is made from scratch and in-house.The result is fresh and delicious meals for a farm to table experience.

And Stoke bar, led by mixologist Todd Barley follows a similar concept, offering 24 draft beers to choose from, 20 of which are from North Carolina. With a rugged charm and rustic vibe, Stoke bar is a cool hang-out spot that stands on its own.

A small wine shop which offers wine at retail prices not just to the guest but also extends wine delivery service to the local community.

Last but not least, another one of my favorites: Coco and the director. I have not seen a coffee shop quite like this in any other hotels. First off, Coco serves amazing coffee sourced from Raleigh, which is about an hour and a half from downtown Charlotte. It also has a dedicated creative space, and a small gift section offering locally made goods. But Coco and the director is more than that. It's an experience. From events like Adult coloring, Throwback Thursday, where they play black and white movies and serve popcorn, to Acoustic Friday and wine night, They’re taking the community focus concept to a whole new level. With its main entrance located on Tryon ST., one of Charlotte’s prime location, you can hardly tell that it’s attached to a hotel.

This new Live beta hotel is an experiment for a new form of hospitality that Marriott hopes to create, With the mindset that the local community is as essential as the hotel guests.
